Give your candle time: why do we not recommend burning it for longer than 2–3 hours?

Lighting a candle is a small ritual of slowing down, but just like any beautiful moment, it too needs its measure.

To ensure your candle maintains a calm flame, clean scent, and proper burn, we recommend that one lighting lasts for a maximum of 2–3 hours.

Wax needs balance

If a candle burns for too long, the wax can overheat. High temperatures can affect how the scent is released, alter the burning quality, and put additional strain on the wick.

For container candles, proper use helps preserve the container itself throughout the candle's lifespan.

Scent loves to take it slow

A candle's scent is designed to develop gradually. Burning for too long can accelerate the evaporation of fragrance notes, causing the scent to lose its delicate balance and complexity.

The wick also needs a small break

During long burns, the wick can become too long and unstable, which can lead to a larger flame, smoke, or soot.

A short break allows you to trim the wick again before the next lighting and restore the candle's balance.

Safety is part of the ritual

A candle always remains an open flame. Shorter burning cycles allow for safer use and a more beautiful experience from the first to the last burn.

At Ivé Lys studio, we recommend:

Light the candle. Slow down. Enjoy for 2–3 hours.
Then extinguish the flame, let the wax cool completely, trim the wick, and when a new moment arrives — light it again.

Because even a candle needs its break. 🤍
