Priča iza imena naših pillar svijeća

The story behind the names of our pillar candles

Design rarely starts with decoration. It starts with proportion. With line. With balance. With the way an object occupies space, even when it doesn't demand attention.

When we created the pillar candle collection for Ivé Lys Studio, we wanted each of them to be more than just a source of light. We envisioned them as small design objects that bring peace to a space and remain a part of it even when not lit.

That's why their names weren't chosen by chance either.

Some are inspired by architecture, some by nature, and some simply by the feeling they evoke in us. We only chose each name when we felt it truly belonged to the shape it carried. Because a name doesn't explain an object. It defines its character.

Plinth

In architecture, a plinth signifies a base – an element that supports a form and gives it presence, yet remains almost imperceptible. This very idea was the starting point for this candle. A stable form, clean lines, and balanced proportions create a sense of calm and permanence. Plinth doesn't demand attention, but it naturally draws it.

Noma

Noma doesn't have a meaning we wanted to explicitly emphasize. We chose it for its sound. It's short, soft, and timeless – a name that is spoken as naturally as the candle blends into a space. Sometimes, the simplest words leave the most lasting impression.

Silo

Silo attracted us with its simplicity. Short, clean, and balanced, it carries the same character as the candle itself. The name is often associated with tall structures of simple geometry. It drew us in precisely because of the feeling it evokes – calm, steady, and unobtrusive. Like a piece that doesn't dominate the space, but quietly complements it.

Aura

There are things we cannot touch, but we can feel them. The warmth of light. The atmosphere created by a flame. The peace that slowly spreads through a space. That is an aura. The name of this candle does not describe its shape, but the feeling it leaves behind.

Still

Still means peace. Silence. Motionlessness. That moment when morning coffee lasts a little longer. When a book remains open on the table. When the space finally falls quiet. This candle was created precisely for such moments.

Rill

In English, the word rill denotes a small stream of water or a narrow channel that water slowly carves as it passes through the earth. Unobtrusive. Quiet. Continuous. In that word, we recognized the natural rhythm and sense of calm that we wanted to convey with this candle.

Eira

The name Eira evokes the north. Winter. Light. In Nordic aesthetics, it is light and silence that shape a space. Not extravagance, but simplicity. Not excess, but balance. Eira carries precisely that character – gentle, balanced, and timeless.

Beautiful home details don't need to attract attention with loudness. Their value isn't in being the center of a space, but in making the space more pleasant to live in. That's why each candle bears a name that reflects its character, chosen just as carefully as its shape.

Because good design isn't just about what we see.

It's about what we feel every time we pass by it.
